Truancy Court Procedures
The following information below reflects Truancy documentation to file Truant Procedures.
Students who are homeless, foster, pregnant, or are the primary income earner of their families will not be subject to Truancy Action.
Truant charges will be filed with the local Justice of the Peace Office: 300 W. Hall Acres, Ste. D, Pharr, TX 78577- (956) 787-1986
Submitted documentation will need to be filed as such:
Blue manila folder.
Checklist Document stapled on right.
Student Info. Sheet stapled on the left.
A label on the file folder will state: (1) Parent Name (2) Parent DOB (3) Parent TX DL Number (4) Student Name
After the Truancy Preventive Measures Sheet, enclose all supporting documents: reflecting home visits, phone calls to parent, phone call log, conferences with the parent, campus measures to increase student's attendance, and discipline information if any.
At the time of court proceedings, ensure to take current date report card/progress report & Attendance Summary by date.
The blue folder with information needs to be submitted as neatly as possible. Remember- the file submitted represents VVISD.
Forms listed below 1-5 are required for the truancy process. Please review attached board policy regarding Truancy rights and responsibilities.
General Attendance-Truancy Procedures:
The phone call to parent by the campus Attendance Clerk. (1-3 absences).
Home Visit by Truancy Officer or Campus Community Aide.
Campus admin meets with the parent on Student Attendance. (4-6 absences) - identify issue.
1st Warning Notice of Attendance will be mail to parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student when unexcused absent- Automated Ascender Letter.
Phone calls and conferences continue by Campus Admin to address the issue.
Home visit will be conducted by Truancy Officer/Community Aide to ensure if student continues to reside in the district.
2nd Warning Notice of Attendance will be sent with student/mailed - "Communities Working Together."
Preventive Measures will be implemented unless the student is the primary income earner, foster, homeless, or pregnant.
Evaluate situation for truancy measures.
